Calcineurin inhibitors are oral or topical immunomodulatory therapies used to suppress immune activity by inhibiting the enzyme calcineurin, which blocks T-cell activation and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines; examples include cyclosporine (Neoral) and tacrolimus (Prograf).
